Marshall police warn ETX about people trying to get your money illegally

Released by Marshall Police Department:

On 05/21/2012, the Marshall Police Department received a call from local merchants in reference to a suspicious white male offering raffle tickets for sale.

The male stated to potential buyers that the tickets were to benefit the St. Joseph’s Church in Marshall and the prize was a dinner at Red Lobster.

MPD Officers contacted St Joseph’s and discovered that they were not holding a raffle. A description was given to officers but they were not able to locate him.

On 05/22/2012, another call was received about the same activity in the area of the 300 Block of East Travis St. Officers located the individual and identified him as Travis Ruffner Brick DOB 07/28/1974 of Hallsville, TX.

Subsequent investigation into the incident resulted in the arrest of Brick on felony theft charges. He is being held in the Harrison County Jail.

The Marshall Police Department hopes to warn citizens that many individuals are seeking this method to obtain money and if you are approached be cautious and possibly verify the cause before you purchase. If anyone has fallen victim to this scam, they may contact Detective Jeff Boyd at 903-935-4540.
